IMF PFTAC youth Facebook Photography Competition

The Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Centre (PFTAC) provides technical assistance and training to 16 Pacific Island countries to foster inclusive growth through sustainable public finances and resilient economies. Established in 1993, PFTAC is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Leading up to this anniversary celebration in Fiji on December 6 & 7, 2018, the IMF is running a youth photo contest to showcase Economic Growth and Resilience in the Pacific Island Countries resulting from the achievements of the PFTAC member countries supported by increased regional cooperation and integration and PFTAC assistance.

Your photographs, and your accompanying captions, will help the Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Centre understand better how they have contributed to the development journey.

WHAT

  • Photos of people, places, nature, or events that show a success story in your country which is raising living standards for everyone. Examples could include but not be limited to facilities, infrastructure, transportation, communications, health, education, employment opportunities, or measures to weather natural disasters and climate change
  • Images must be original and taken personally by the photographer, and not previously published.
  • No entries using advertising, inappropriate images, or that violates any laws are allowed.
  • Photos must have a caption, in English, of no more than 150 words to explain the photo.

HOW

  • All photos must be submitted to IMF PFTAC 25th Anniversary Photo Contest – Online event page on Facebook. Photos can be submitted on any of the following event pages.
    • IMF PFTAC 25th Anniversary Photo Contest (1) – September 17 – October 1
    • IMF PFTAC 25th Anniversary Photo Contest (2) – October 2 – October 16
    • IMF PFTAC 25th Anniversary Photo Contest (3) – October 17 – October 29
  • The caption should be accompanied by the hashtag #PacificGrowthandResilience.
  • There is no limit to the number of times a participant may enter the competition.
  • IMF will disqualify from the competition any photos it deems inappropriate

WHEN

  • Post your photo/s anytime between September 15, 2018 and October 29, 2018.
  • Winners will be announced by November 20, 2018.

WHO

To be eligible:

  • Participants must be a resident of any of the 16 countries supported by PFTAC (Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu, plus the Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau).
  • Be 16 – 24 years old
  • Have a valid passport and be available to travel to the anniversary celebration location (Nadi, Fiji) on Dec 5 – 7, 2018.
  • IMF employees, vendors and their direct family members are not eligible to compete.
  • By participating in the competition, participants grant the IMF the [exclusive] right to print, copy, and display and distribute their entries.

JUDGING

  • Entries will be judged by IMF staff and decisions cannot be appealed.
  • Submissions will be judged based on the following Criteria: (1) Relevance to the topic; (2) Creativity; (3) Aesthetics of the photograph; and (4) country diversity.

PRIZES

  • Three winners will be selected; one exclusively for High School Students between 16 and 18 years old; and a first and second prize award for those between 19 and 24 years old.
  • The winners will be invited to attend the IMF/PFTAC 25th Anniversary Celebration in Nadi, Fiji. To include economy-class return flight to Nadi, Fiji with full-board accommodation for 3 nights.
  • Additionally, the High School winner and the 19-24-year old First Prize winner will receive an iPhone and the travel & accommodation costs of a friend or relative will be covered to accompany the winner to Nadi.
  • The 19-24-year old Second Prize winner will receive an iPhone or the choice of the travel and accommodation costs of a friend or relative being covered to accompany the winner to Nadi.
  • The IMF will provide required written invitations for the winners to apply for a visa to enter Fiji.
  • Winners to make any necessary visa applications in their own time and at their own expense.
  • Winners selected to travel to the IMF/PFTAC 25th Anniversary Celebration in Nadi, Fiji will act as IMF youth photographers for the day. The winners should agree to provide IMF, free of any additional charge, a selection of at least 50 images documenting the event.
  • The IMF will acquire sole ownership of the photos taken at the anniversary events.
