In a ruling on Monday, January 27, 2025, Lord Chief Justice Bishop issued a court order that set aside the Default Judgment that had granted TDB and 2 other plaintiffs Damage Claims of about $30 million against the National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT) and Governor Moeaki, along with three journalists.
NRBT reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the financial system’s stability through its enhanced prudential supervision of all licensed banks and other financial institutions to ensure credit and other identified risks are mitigated and that depositors’ funds are protected.
