Unauthorized moneylenders must immediately stop their operations and apply for a valid license from the Reserve Bank. It is crucial to know that any agreements made with individuals claiming to be moneylenders without a valid license are not legally binding.
Conducting money lending without a license is a serious offence, punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, as per section 3 of the Moneylenders Act 2018.
