The designs on the 20 pa'anga banknote

On the front of the banknote, it features His Majesty King Tupou VI as the current monarch.

The banknote also incorporates the Tokelau Feletoa kupesi, showcasing our Tongan identity. On the bottom-right corner of the banknote sits the Tongan Coat of Arms.

The National Reserve Bank of Tonga building appears on the back of the 20 Pa’anga. This building is located on Salote Road in Nuku’alofa. The foundation stone of the building was laid by King Taufa’āhau Tupou IV on 8th May 1993. The construction lasted around 15 months and His Majesty opened the new building on 21st April 1994.

Feature	Reference	Information
Intaglio (Raised) ink		Feel the raised ink by running your fingers over the words "Kingdom of Tonga" and the note values.
Color Changing Thread		The shiny threads on the 20 pa’anga appear at intervals on the surface of the notes and change colour from green to red when you tilt the note. This feature also applies to the 2, 5, and 10 pa'anga.
Watermarks		When you hold the note up to the light, you will see the watermark portrait of His Majesty the King together with a lighter area reading ‘NRBT’.
Printed Text		Looking at the shiny threads on the 20 pa’anga when held up to the light, you will see that the text 'NRBT' appears in the thread. This feature also applies to the 2, 5, and 10 pa'anga.
Ultra Violet Reaction	When held under an ultraviolet (UV) light, areas of the note will glow yellow.
Image Alignment	There is an area of print on the front of each not that lines up perfectly with a cross on the bank of the note.
