An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission led by Yasuhisa Ojima visited Nuku’alofa from February 16 – 27 to conduct the 2015 Article IV consultation discussions. The mission met with Prime Minister Honorable ‘Akilisi Pohiva, Minister for Finance and National Planning Honorable Dr. ‘Aisake Valu Eke, Governor of the National Reserve Bank of Tonga Dr. Sione Ngongo Kioa, and other senior government officials, as well as development partners and private sector representatives.

Her Royal Highness Princess Angelika Latufuipeka Tuku'aho will officially launch the production of Tonga’s new circulating coins.

The 29th South Pacific Central Bank Governors’ Meeting was held in Suva from 2-5 December, 2014. 

The Foreign Exchange Control (Amendment) Regulations 2000 assigns the authority to the Reserve Bank over sending money and securities out of Tonga.

The Chairman, Mr. Steve Edwards and the Board of Directors of the National Reserve Bank of Tonga paid $3,552,247 to the Minister for Finance and National Planning.

The Reserve Bank monitors pa’anga exchange rate movements, to ensure the country’s balance of payments position and price stability align with these objectives. Carefully balancing the advantages for both recipients and remitters of foreign exchange aims to support macroeconomic stability.
