The National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT) marks its 35th anniversary on Monday 16 September 2024 with an audited net profit of $35 million as its twin milestones. The $35.8 million profit in 2024 is 75 percent higher than last year’s 2023 record profit of $20 million.

The National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT) has officially identified and taken action against the entity operating under the name "Famili Tonga USA Trading" for engaging without a licence in investment activities confirmed as a banking business. This entity has been found to operate without a requisite banking license, a contravention of section 7 of the Banking Act 2020.

The public is advised that businesses and individuals offering money lending services must have a valid license issued by the Reserve Bank under the Moneylenders Act 2018.
